Powering Imagination for Peak Performance
through the arts that ignites your unique gifts while expanding thinking to improve results.
that prepares the mind to explore new possibilities through relaxation and mindfulness.
CEOs and leaders want to prepare and transform their organizations for the future. Whether the challenge is digital and technology integration, workforce and talent development, innovation and creativity, the challenges have become more and more daunting. Solving new problems with old approaches and getting the same results is captured by researchers who found that 75% of CEOs state that they are working on transformation projects and that 75% of transformation projects fail! (Tony Schwartz) We all want to feel the spark and joy of setting out to accomplish a big transformation, and seeing it happen successfully.
Why are transformations failing at such a high rate? As humans, we are trained to do things a certain way, and tend to enjoy what has worked in the past. However, with the current complexity of change and the need to build a structure of creativity and transformation, something called the “leadership disconnect” is a term that describes why organizations may fail. Leadership disconnection occurs when solutions are created that no one wants because we are disconnected from the people who are affected by our decisions.
Leaders use only 20% of their creative minds which are needed to embrace and drive creativity as a new tool to solve new problems. This is a challenge for leaders because becoming more creative requires using internal world or unconscious thinking and emotion that we have not been comfortable embracing. May, a famous philosopher, stated that poets are delightful to those in the meadow but a disaster for the assembly line. He believed that we are afraid of our unconscious and internal experience, because to protect ourselves from fear is to put tools and mechanics between themselves and the unconscious world. The technical mechanical devices and solutions block our ability to use our imagination effectively.
Imagination is said to be the greatest value for new economic growth. Strong inner health and powering the imagination will drive our ability to compete and enhance our performance and potential while keeping us resilient during complexity. We must increase our imaginations and that requires understanding how to use our internal world to think and see things differently.
The progress of the last 800 years has yielded a path to the discovery of art, poetry, music—the benefits of the Renaissance and the technological era that followed. This progress however, points to a critical concern regarding how the ingenuity of our progress changes our survival trajectory as humans as we are experiencing the dark side of technology through pending technological unemployment, social media anxiety and bullying and so many other examples of how we are becoming disconnected from ourselves and others.
We must surely celebrate the great benefits of technological advancements that extend life and have developed inventions that were considered science fiction just yesterday. However, this progress has resulted in “nearly total immersion in the mechanical, reductionist approach and has…produced a way of thinking in which we tend to treat ourselves and others as objects for manipulation” (Briggs & Peat) This implies that we are observing, dissecting and controlling our world instead of embracing, thinking and living in the world.
EVERYONE’S CREATIVITY CAN BE UNLEASHED THROUGH accessing the area of the brain where the IMAGINATION lives.
“Techne” the Greek root word of technology, defined as the practical, experience side of theory, as well as the arts and craftsmanship of bringing something new to being; has been largely applied to machines. Given the focus on artificial intelligence and digitization, Dr. Gloria believes that investing in the improvement of the mind to expand imagination is extremely important as we are on the horizon of machine and humans as co-partners in the future of society’s next evolution for the way we work and live.
Technology of the Mind increases the way we imagine and create solutions, expand our thinking while increasing our personal and professional health and growth. Creative Thinking Techniques that combine important facets of the creative arts, technology, and cognitive processes increases the human’s ability to shift from being external focused to leveraging the power of internal resources that ignite the imagination. The Technology of the Mind System for Leaders is comprised of the leadership of three phases: Leadership System Assessment, Developing the Emerging Psychophysical System, and Implementing the Emotional Imagination Creative Thinking System.
THE LEADERSHIP SYSTEM ASSESSMENT
Cultural assessment based on leading research that captures creative capabilities and engagement of employees
DEVELOPING THE EMERGING
Developing the Emerging Psychophysical System: Testing to understand an individuals’ relationship between internal (where imagination resides) and external (physical including culture) worlds. Includes understanding organizational and individual myths that create the true reality of the organization.
IMPLEMENTING THE EMOTIONAL
IMAGINATION CREATIVE THINKING SYSTEM
Implementing the Emotional Imagination Creative Thinking System: created using the 13 creative strengths of the Torrance Test for Creative Thinking (TTCT). Training required to shift individuals and organizations to a more creative mindset resulting in changing the organization’s performance, engagement and problem solving.
The Technology of the Mind system, developed by Dr. Gloria, takes a holistic approach to the organizational ecosystem, allowing her to approach individual and team development needs via Creative Strength Testing and Systems and Psychological Assessments. Armed with this invaluable data and her systems approach she uses Organizational Ideation and Creative Thinking to assess interdependence of environment and team to determine organizational readiness for the shift toward ideation and innovative transformation work.
The Mousai Group leverages methodologies such as world café, open space technology and appreciative inquiry along with creative arts experiences leveraging the cognitive processes that increase learning retention to design an innovation driven culture without reorganizing people but by shifting mindsets. Dr Gloria’s extensive experience and education include:
• Former C-Suite Executive in Health Care, Banking, Technology and Energy
• PhD in Psychology with a focus in Creativity and Organizational Systems from Saybrook University, a Humanistic Psychology school with one of the first PhD programs that focused on all aspects of creativity as well as organizational creativity, mental health, education and social transformation
• Co-Host of The Blend, a web-tv talk show focusing on women’s health
